Appreciate What You Have

What a difference life can be when you appreciate everything.
What a difference life can be when you appreciate everything.

You must learn to appreciate what you have in life.   Sure, some of your friends or members of your family may have a larger, fancier house, or they may drive a more expensive car.

Material things are nice, to be sure.   However, the acquisition of material things does not equal happiness.   Now, that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t set your sights on finding ways to continually improve your life.   Just do it for the right reasons, and do in a way that compliments your goals and not someone else’s.

The excitement of material things wears off quickly.   However, good relationships can give lasting satisfaction for the rest of your life. The benefits of treating people right, supporting them in times of need, making them laugh is more valuable than anything that you can purchase with money.

Don’t forget to take the time to appreciate what you’ve achieved.   In fact, be sure to reward yourself for your small accomplishments along the way to reaching your goals.

Consider the goals of an Olympic contender.   They’ve spent their lives training and working hard to earn the opportunity to compete in the Olympic events.   They’ve established a goal early on to be the best that they can be at their given sport.

They all congregate together to compete in an event with others who have also trained equally hard.   They all have their eye on the gold medal.   However, only one person will walk away with the gold medal for that particular event.

Does that make the participants that didn’t receive the gold medal losers or underachievers?   Of course not.   Just the fact that they achieved their goal of participating in the Olympics makes them winners, regardless of whether they were awarded the gold, silver or bronze medals.

The difference between a gold, silver, or a bronze medal can be measured in nanoseconds.   Therefore, those that walked away with the silver and bronze medals should appreciate what they have achieved.   They should be thankful for having the physical abilities and stamina to perform in their chosen events.

With the attitude of gratitude , you appreciate everything that you have.   You are constantly working towards achieving higher goals.   Most of all, you won’t waste precious time wondering if the grass is greener on the other side, because you’ll already know that it seldom is.
